According to a legend, Lord Vishnu appeared at the Triveni (water) of Prayag from King Bali’s place on Ekadashi, went to Badrinath, and on Chaturdashi, reached his abode, Baikuntha. On Kartik Purnima, he resided at the temples, where the deities worshipped Lord Narayana and Mother Tulsi. This festival is part of the Kartik Udyapan (night vigil), where devotees observe a night vigil and light lamps in the Lord’s name.
