First Law of Karma: As you all know, we’re going to discuss the 12 principles of karma. Today, in this series of 12 karmic principles, we’ll discuss the first principle of karma, the greatest law of karma. We often hear people say they’ve performed good deeds throughout their lives but haven’t received the fruits of their actions. This is because they’ve ignored the greatest law of karma.

The relationship between a seed and a tree and the great law of karma
Our actions are like seeds. We reap the fruits of the seeds we sow. It’s often said, “You can’t plant thorns and expect to harvest mangoes.”
What this means is that if you haven’t done any good deeds, how can good things happen to you? Many people are also found saying, “We are doing good deeds, but we aren’t seeing any results.” At that point, they should keep in mind that their good deeds are like seeds; those seeds will first become small plants, then grow into trees, and only then will those trees bear fruit.
Don’t spoil your actions by worrying about the results.
If you are doing your work while worrying about the results, you are not giving your seeds a chance to germinate properly. Remember what Lord Krishna said in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita:
Karmanye vadhikaraste ma phaleshu kadachan.
Ma karmaphalaheturbhurma te sango’stvkarmani.
That is, you have the right only to perform your actions, not to their results. Don’t perform your actions with concern for the outcome, and don’t shy away from them because of the temptation of the outcome. Therefore, focus on doing good deeds in your life, not on the rewards you receive as a result of those actions.
How to Follow This Great Law of Karma(First Law of Karma)
Remember that your actions are not just physical, but also ideological.
- Just doing good won’t suffice; you must also think good.
- Just doing good to others won’t suffice; you must also think about doing good to others.
- Be kind, along with cultivating compassion in your heart.
Following this simple rule is extremely difficult, and people often stray from this path. They not only think ill of others but also ruin their own actions by using bad words.

Remember, the actions of others are not in your control, but your own actions are. Therefore, the more restraint you exercise over your actions and speech, the more nature will bless you. Don’t let your actions be affected by impatience and worry about the results.
- Develop a gentle demeanor in life.
- While worshipping God, perform good deeds for the welfare of others.
- Do as much as you can with a selfless spirit.
If God is kind, one day the seeds of your actions will sprout and become plants and trees, and they will surely bear fruit. Until then, be patient and continue your work with a calm mind.
